Is Your Car Making You Sick?

Posted by:

I recently learned that the temperature inside a car on a hot July day can be 40 degrees hotter than the temperature outside. So, if it’s 90 degrees outside when I jump in the car, inside it’s a raging 130 degrees! Of course it’s hot and most everyone’s first move is to turn on the A/C to cool down. Not so fast, everyone! We’ve all heard how it’s not healthy to leave a water bottle out in the sun. The ...

Sleep on This – Cherries!

Posted by:

For all of us, we’re just leaving summer season when fruits and vegetables are plentiful! One of my very favorite fruits are cherries. I just can’t get enough of them in July, when they’re in season. Not surprising is that my favorite pie flavor is cherry, too. In addition to the fact that they’re plump and juicy and just taste amazing, they actually can help with sleep. No kidding! Read on and I’ll tell you how.

Summertime!

Posted by:

Summer to me is about lots of things that start with the letter “S”! In today’s post it was easy to select categories that have “significance” and that offer “savory accents” to our summer experiences.  Food is so much a part of what we all enjoy – food is “social” as it brings us together; the “seasonal” bounty offers us a huge range of produce we don’t see any other time of the year. Summer also means we get to ...

Egoscue to the Rescue!

Posted by:

Several years ago I wrote about a wonderful pain management protocol that was introduced to me by a good friend. (Thank you, Phyllis Mitz!) I was preparing for a 10-day bicycle trip and my training was just making a back problem worse. One of the therapists, here at Egoscue of Denver, helped me enormously with excellent postural exercises and voila, huge relief and a successful bike trip!

Two weeks ago, my right shoulder blade slipped out of place. This happens twice ...

Self-Nourishment During and Post Covid

Posted by:

Our days have certainly changed post Covid? It’s now been labeled a flu. While it was a crazy time, we witnessed humans  stepping up and showing love and kindnesses in the most remarkable, creative ways! We still see examples of them every day on Social Media, the news and in our own neighborhoods.

One of the greatest acts of love we can show fellow humans is sometimes staying home when we’re ill.  Challenging, yet it is the ultimate act in caring ...

Could this period of “social distancing” actually be considered both physical AND mental health gifts during these challenging days and those ahead? While many of us are working from home in our attempts to ease the spread and the risks of contracting this nasty virus, I am going to be bold and present a few of the gifts in this period.

Consider reduced stress of transportation to and from a demanding work environment. Consider being able to squeeze in a 20-minute ...

How did I get PERC on my Party Dress?

Posted by:

“Tis the season…” with looking at  holiday parties and getting dressed in our finest clothes, often clothes that can’t or shouldn’t be just tossed in the washer and dryer. Is traditional dry cleaning safe? I don’t think so. Heard of PERC? Read on….

What is PERC?

It’s an acronym for tetrachloroethylene, also known as perchloroethylene. (If you can pronounce these you’re a rock star!) PERC is the primary solvent used in 85 percent of the approximately 35,000 dry cleaners in the U.S. ...

How to Have MORE money, LESS Stress and MORE Fun this Holiday Season!

Experience Vs. “Things”— Your presence is the present!
Recently,  I was sitting next to a lovely thirty-something mother at the nail salon. The conversation turned to the holidays; with a sigh and slumped shoulders, she proceeded to lament the burden of holiday shopping. Her annual shopping experience that not only includes her family also includes her circle of friends, all of whom she adores. I suggested that perhaps her group of girlfriends might celebrate their friendship AND the holidays together ...

Thank You to the Healers in Our Lives!

Posted by:

“Regardless of whether our focus in healing is on the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level, all levels are invariably touched by the process, and none can be separated out from the rest.” — Mary Maddux (Meditation teacher)

As I reflect back to November 2003 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my healing journey began from a physical place that included a wonderful surgeon, followed by the referral to an extraordinary oncologist at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute ...

How Healthy Is Your Self-Cleaning Oven?

Posted by:

So a few times a year,  (yes, it should be more) I tackle the big job of oven cleaning.  However, as I open my oven after many months of lots of use,  I am more inclined to procrastinate. Many of us have self-cleaning ovens, but wait, what’s that nasty smell that comes with burning throat and itchy eyes that comes with that convenience?

Did you know that self-cleaning ovens are lined with Teflon and when exposed to the 600 or more ...
