Do Flip Flops = Foot Health?

Posted by:

I confess. I have a pair of flip-flops that I jump into first thing in the morning to go out and water plants. They’re easy and convenient, right?! They offer coolness on these hot days and I think just about everyone I know, owns a pair.  Does that make them good for us, our feet, our bodies? Our feet have 8000 nerves in them, and the average person takes between 8,000 -10,000 steps per day. The human foot contains 26 ...

Is Your Car Making You Sick?

Posted by:

I recently learned that the temperature inside a car on a hot July day can be 40 degrees hotter than the temperature outside. So, if it’s 90 degrees outside when I jump in the car, inside it’s a raging 130 degrees! Of course it’s hot and most everyone’s first move is to turn on the A/C to cool down. Not so fast, everyone! We’ve all heard how it’s not healthy to leave a water bottle out in the sun. The ...

Sleep on This – Cherries!

Posted by:

For many of us, this is the best time of the year when fruits and vegetables are plentiful! One of my very favorite fruits are cherries. I just can’t get enough of them in July, when they’re in season. Not surprising is that my favorite pie flavor is cherry, too. In addition to the fact that they’re plump and juicy and just taste amazing, they actually can help with sleep. No kidding! Read on and I’ll tell you how.

Summertime!

Posted by:

Summer to me is about lots of things that start with the letter “S”! In today’s post it was easy to select categories that have “significance” and that offer “savory accents” to our summer experiences.  Food is so much a part of what we all enjoy – food is “social” as it brings us together; the “seasonal” bounty offers us a huge range of produce we don’t see any other time of the year. Summer also means we get to ...

Health and Hatitude!

Posted by:

Sunny, warm days are upon us, and in this pandemic our need for fresh air, Vitamin D and exercise are ever important to our well-being. While it’s important to get the necessary Vitamin D from the sun each day, it’s also important to protect our skin, especially our tender scalps, face, eyes and ears. And why not be fashionable while we’re at it! It’s all about the “Hatitude!”

I’ve always been a hat girl, but especially since moving back to Denver ...

Egoscue to the Rescue!

Posted by:

A couple years ago I wrote about a wonderful pain management protocol that was introduced to me by a good friend. (Thank you, Phyllis Mitz!) I was preparing for a 10-day bicycle trip and my training was just making a back problem worse. One of the therapists, here at Egoscue of Denver, helped me enormously with excellent postural exercises and voila, huge relief and a successful bike trip!

Two weeks ago, my right shoulder blade slipped out of place. This happens ...

Self-Nourishment during Covid

Posted by:

Our days have certainly changed since my last post, haven’t they? We are living with such uncertainty. All around us though, us humans are stepping up and showing love and kindnesses in the most remarkable, creative ways! We see examples of them every day on Social Media, the news and in our own neighborhoods.

One of the greatest acts of love we’re all being asked to follow are  the staying-at-home directives. Challenging, yet it is the ultimate act in caring for ...

The Art of Doing Nothing

Posted by:

Could this period of “social distancing” actually be considered both physical AND mental health gifts during these challenging days and those ahead? While many of us are working from home in our attempts to ease the spread and the risks of contracting this nasty virus, I am going to be bold and present a few of the gifts in this period.

Consider reduced stress of transportation to and from a demanding work environment. Consider being able to squeeze in a 20-minute ...

The Best Present for New Year’s Day!

Posted by:

As you ponder the concept of the “best present,” what would that mean to you?

Would it be leaving behind the rough patches of 2019, hoping to scratch that winning lottery ticket, or finding out you may have a new job offer coming your way?

So many of us spend so much time reflecting on the past year and planning for a new year full of opportunities.

How much time on January 1st do we spend reviewing, hoping, planning? Is there a better ...

How did I get PERC on my Party Dress?

Posted by:

“Tis the season…” of holiday parties and getting dressed in our finest clothes, often clothes that can’t or shouldn’t be just tossed in the washer and dryer. Is traditional dry cleaning safe? I don’t think so. Heard of PERC? Read on….

What is PERC?

It’s an acronym for tetrachloroethylene, also known as perchloroethylene. (If you can pronounce these you’re a rock star!) PERC is the primary solvent used in 85 percent of the approximately 35,000 dry cleaners in the U.S. (Green American)

According ...
