How did I get PERC on my Party Dress?

Posted by:

“Tis the season…” of holiday parties and getting dressed in our finest clothes, often clothes that can’t or shouldn’t be just tossed in the washer and dryer. Is traditional dry cleaning safe? I don’t think so. Heard of PERC? Read on….

What is PERC?

It’s an acronym for tetrachloroethylene, also known as perchloroethylene. (If you can pronounce these you’re a rock star!) PERC is the primary solvent used in 85 percent of the approximately 35,000 dry cleaners in the U.S. (Green American)

How to Have MORE money, LESS Stress and MORE Fun this Holiday Season!

Experience Vs. “Things”— Your presence is the present!
Yesterday, I was sitting next to a lovely thirty-something mother at the nail salon. The conversation turned to the holidays; with a sigh and slumped shoulders, she proceeded to lament the burden of holiday shopping. Her annual shopping experience that not only includes her family also includes her circle of friends, all of whom she adores. I suggested that perhaps her group of girlfriends might celebrate their friendship AND the holidays together ...

How Healthy Is Your Self-Cleaning Oven?

Posted by:

So a few times a year,  (yes, it should be more) I tackle the big job of oven cleaning.  However, as I open my oven after many months of lots of use,  I am more inclined to procrastinate. Many of us have self-cleaning ovens, but wait, what’s that nasty smell that comes with burning throat and itchy eyes that comes with that convenience?

Did you know that self-cleaning ovens are lined with Teflon and when exposed to the 600 or more ...

Magnesium Matters!

Posted by:

In the past few months, several friends have commented on their insomnia, night leg cramps, depression, migraines and brain fog. Did you know that these can often be symptoms of magnesium deficiency? Did you know that magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body? It truly plays a big part in the health of one’s body.

Even when we think we’re getting enough nutrients through our food, we may actually be deficient. Outside of bone, the highest tissue ...

Where to Begin?

Posted by:

I can’t tell you how many times my readers tell me that they really want to live a more “non-toxic” lifestyle but they don’t know where to begin. They also express concerns about doing this in an affordable way. Believe me, I know. I started this journey 15 years ago. I admit it can be overwhelming, but I do have a few suggestions for making the transition easier!

I’d like to add that it’s important to give yourself a high five ...

The Spoils of Oils!

Posted by:

I use them when I bathe and shower, as room fresheners in diffusers, and as daily uplifting or calming modalities. Lots of us also love their fragrances in potpourri.  They are wonderful as part of natural cleaning products. I also use them in my Reiki practice, and I’ll bet many of you who practice yoga have experienced them in class in one fashion or another. Many of us enjoy them in herbal teas too!

Essential oils offer so much. Did you ...

My Colonoscopy Calamity!

Posted by:

Going back to 2018,  for nearly six months, I had been dealing  with the fallout of a colonoscopy procedure gone bad. I’ve had a few of these procedures with no adverse effects, but this last one was different, and I want to share what happened and my concerns.  Given my quest for healthy living, this recent procedure has negatively impacted my health enough that I’m definitely rethinking future procedures. Please read this, it’s pretty important.

“March Madness” with Mediterranean!

Posted by:

As the winter winds down, some of my most favorite comfort dishes come from the Mediterranean regions of the world. I subscribe to Clean Eating magazine so imagine my delight last night to receive my latest copy with several mouth- watering recipes. Numerous studies have proven that the dietary habits of those living in Mediterranean areas have lower rates of cancer, heart disease and other chronic diseases. In fact, many claim it to be the world’s healthiest diet.

As we’ve all ...

Could Your Toothbrush Be Keeping You Sick?

Posted by:

Yep, it’s still flu season and one of the things you might not be thinking about is how “germy” your toothbrush has become…read on!

Okay, so we had a few funky germs in our home over the holiday season and while washing the bedding and airing out the house, I remembered that bacteria can also linger on our toothbrushes. Most of us brush at least twice a day. Funny how good health can be derailed when brushing with a germy toothbrush, ...

What Do You Value?

Posted by:

What do you value? Is what you value shown in your daily choices? Are you expending the appropriate energy each day toward that which you value? I find myself continuing to ask myself these questions as part of journey in a spiritual class I took a number of years ago.

Do my choices and actions reflect my values, to myself, to others? As the days seem to go faster, I am becoming more acutely aware of time and my role in ...
